It’s time for school vacations, summer vacations, and building memories in the great outdoors once more. Remember that enjoying the outdoors entails a tremendous deal of responsibility! (Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, does it?)
So, we put together a list of ways that you may enjoy the summers while making sure you are safe, healthy, and taken good care of. Follow our advice and chronicle your summer pest control so you can look back on them fondly in the future.
Tips to Protect Yourself from Summer Bugs
- Wear proper clothing
- Avoid Scented Products
- Keep the House Clean
- Check Your Screens
- Use a Pest Control Service
Wear proper clothing
Wear long pants, hiking boots, and socks if you’re trekking in an area with tall grass or foliage to avoid being bitten and having tick problems. To protect your face, ears, and neck from the sun, consider wearing a hat with a full brim (all the way around).
In woodland regions, long sleeves and pants are recommended and be sure to shower when you get home to remove insect repellent, sunscreen, and any ticks or bugs that have not yet attached themselves to your body. (If you were in a tick-infested region, you should also check for ticks.) When playing on the grass, make sure to wear sandals or tennis shoes, as bees on the ground can be a nuisance.
Avoid Scented Products
If you use perfume or cologne, reducing your use throughout the summer can help to keep the bugs in range. Why? The strong aroma of cologne or perfume attracts a lot of insects.
Many things that aren’t traditionally thought of as “scented” might attract bugs. Using unscented sunscreens, lotions, hair treatments, and detergents can keep the bugs or fleas at bay.
Keep the House Clean
Focusing on the cleanliness of your home will not only make it more pleasant but will also reduce the likelihood of unwelcome visitors like summer bugs. A messy dwelling is ideal for pests since it provides them with areas to hide and nest.
Pay special attention to the corners of the room where dirt tends to collect. Sweeping and mopping on a regular basis will keep bugs away. Pay special attention to the areas behind and under the furniture.
Keep an eye out for crumbs and other food remnants, since these will attract ants, cockroaches, rats, and spiders. Cleaning your carpets will also eliminate and prevent fleas that might harm your dogs.
Check Your Screens
As the weather becomes warmer, we want to open our windows and let in some fresh air. Before you begin, double-check that all of the screens in your home are in good working order. Check for gaps along the edges where the screens meet the window or door frame and replace any screens with holes.
