Some technicians have spent decades working in pest control. Over the years they have reported dozens of bizarre and unusual encounters with pests. Today we’re going to share some of these stories with you. They include a few of the strangest places we’ve ever heard of a wasp infestation.
Bizarre places people have found a wasp infestation
Wasps are known for their tenacity. These insects are able to build their nests literally anywhere. Wasps aren’t picky and will attach their nests in places that you or I may think of as unusual. This includes some places that are totally unexpected. For example:
Inside an abandoned car
Pest technicians were once called out to a scrapyard where a wasp infestation was found in a car. This nest was enormous and the wasps had built it on the driver’s seat. From there it measured all the way to the top of the roof!
Under the spare wheel
One of the most bizarre places where we heard of a wasps’ nest was under the spare wheel of a car. This wheel belonged to a vehicle the client had not driven for several years. They inspected the car after several years, opened the boot, and looked under the wheel. There, they were meet with a nasty surprise in the form of a massive wasp infestation.
On the side of a ladder
Another odd place someone found a wasps’ nest was on the side of a ladder. A homeowner called pest technicians out to a suburban home where the client had a shed. This shed had not been opened for years. But when the client finally looked inside, they found the nest on the side of a ladder.
Inside a Barbie house
Wasp infestations can happen anywhere! As you know, wasps love to make their nests in attics. This gives them a place to shelter from the elements. It also gives them somewhere to live where they will not be disturbed. In this case, the homeowner had not entered their attic for several months. When they did, they discovered that wasps had built a nest inside a box of old children’s toys.
More specifically, the homeowners found the nest in the bedroom of a Barbie house. Bright colours attract wasps, which must be why they choose this specific location. Incidentally, every shade of colour attracts wasps except red. This is because they cannot see it.
On the side of a sofa
Pest controllers once had to remove a giant nest from the side of a sofa. This was in an abandoned house purchased by a client to renovate. The nest was gigantic, and went all the way from the floor up to the arm of the sofa.
Instead of killing the wasps, the technicians simply donned PPE and threw the sofa into a skip outside. This destroyed their nest and the wasps flew away. They didn’t bother to return. Funnily enough, the owner found a second wasps’ nest in this derelict house. This time it was upstairs. The wasps had built their nest inside of an old mattress. We have no idea what could have attracted them to this location! If you incur the wrath of having a wasp nest in your premises then please get in touch via our page about wasp control.
