Why are rodents such formidable pests, and why do you need to protect your London home against mice? A large part of the answer to these questions lies in their incredible skill set. Read on to find out!
- Curiosity – Mice are super curious, and are quick to explore any new additions to their environment. This makes them hard to catch because they’re always on the move.
- Falling – Mice can fall or jump from a height of 12 feet without injury, making it easy for them to escape from tight spots when cornered. Dropping from this height won’t kill or seriously harm a mouse.
- Jumping – Mice can leap at least 12 inches vertically and 24 inches horizontally.
- Squeezing – They have flexible skulls and can fit through the tiniest openings, a half-inch in diameter.
- Climbing – Mice can easily scale any vertical surface that is textured or rough. This allows enough for them to get a toehold. So don’t think they can’t climb the side of your house to enter a crack in the roof, they can and they will!
- Balance – Mice can walk along telephone wires, ropes and cables.
- Swimming – Mice can be great swimmers when they have to be, even against strong currents. If you have an older home they may even appear in your toilet!
- Gnawing – Mice are constantly gnawing anything softer than their teeth, so any soft materials around your house are at risk of a mouse attack.
- Population Growth – Mice breed like there’s no tomorrow’s, and can have as many as 10 litters per year, with as many as 8 babies a time! Mice in an ideal habitat could easily multiply into the thousands in one year. That’s a big problem! Conditions aren’t often ideal, fortunately, but for any homeowner, going from 2 to 30 in a year is way beyond what you want or need.
- Diseases – Mice carry so many harmful diseases, including typhus. They can spread these diseases through their fur and faeces, which would make you very sick very quickly.
All of these facts should definitely make you concerned, because they make mice dangerous intruders in your home. We know that where there is one mouse, there are more.
