Size, Shape and Colour: 25-40mm, Long thorax dark reddish brown centrally with a distinct paler band around the outer margins. Abdomen pale brown and winged.
Biology: 30 Oetheca produced per female in its lifetime approximately, each containing 14 to 28 eggs. Incubation 25 to 40 days. The female carries the ootheca for 4-6 weeks depositing it when the eggs are fully developed and are ready to hatch. Nymphal stages 10 to 13, nymphal development 130 to 150 days and thelife span is 250 to 350 days. Males are shorter lived than females.
Preferred Foods: Omnivorous
Habitat: Not common in UK. Found in universities, zoo’s and where animals are bred, sometimes imported with raw materials and can be found within Hotel drainage systems.
