Fleas are one of the most difficult pests to tackle. We’re here to offer some handy tips on how to recognise the symptoms of a flea infestation, where to find fleas, and how we get rid of them with our London wide pest control methods.
Here’s something you may not know. Fleas can lie dormant for as long as 12 months, so you may not even be aware you have an infestation until long after it has happened. To spot the symptoms of a flea infested house, look out for these signs:
- Rashes and bites – especially around the wrists, ankles and stomach. Flea bites look like a heat spot and some people even develop a rash.
- Seeing the fleas – you’ll be able to see a fully grown adult flea jumping around your bed.
- Seeing eggs or faeces – adult fleas create the ‘salt and pepper’ effect with their pearly white eggs and brown faeces which is easy to spot.
The most common places to find fleas are in your pet’s bedding, and nesting in your clothes and carpets. Fleas can even make their home in your roof space. Anywhere that is warm and dark is the perfect spot for these pests to harbour.
If you own a pet and think the flea problem has been caused by them then you must treat them first on the advice of your vet. If you don’t own a pet or have already treated the animals and are still infested, here are some tips to keep your home flea free:
- Vacuum – regularly vacuuming your carpets is essential in tackling flea eggs, disposing of the contents outside straight away.
- Washing – wash your clothes and bedding on a hot temperature. If you can’t wash some of your items then freeze them!
- Spray – purchase a flea spray and get to work around your house. You can also use a lamp or powder to ward off the rest of those bothersome pests.
If you have tried all of these technique and still have a problem, it’s time to call a London pest professional. Calling in your local pest control company may be pricey, but will always be the most efficient and effective way of dealing with pest infestations.
