You may or may not have noticed, but recently there have been alarming news reports regarding two of the biggest pests in and around central London; the first was about a supposed ‘giant rat’ and the second was about a friendly fox trying to drag home a drunken man. While the size of the rat is debatable, and whether or not the fox was trying to undress the man is certainly a question that needs answering; the real concern here is that these pests are so comfortable with their life in London, that we aren’t surprised at all.
Pest control in East London is our forte here at Empire, and we are the first to acknowledge that pests, such as rats and foxes are ones that need to be controlled in our cities.
East End Rat
Many people are aware that the rat photographed is an optical illusion and that there isn’t actually an army of 4-foot long rats in London.
However, it does appear that the rat was overweight which indicates that rats in East London have a plentiful supply of food and shelter to grow this big.
You can do your best to deter rodents from your home or business by ensuring all bins are clean and secure, with bags tied securely. Ensure that all cracks and crevices to the exterior of your premises are sealed to prevent rats finding a new home in yours, and keep outhouses and sheds clean and tidy to eradicate places for these pests to nest and feed.
Urban Fox Fun
Stories of an urban fox getting up-close and personal with a drunken man after a night out have also made the headlines recently. The brazen fox wasn’t scared in the slightest, as the tugging of the man’s trousers clearly demonstrates; the man even said he thought the fox just wanted to play.
It is important to remember, however, that foxes are predators and are much more akin to biting than they are to playing. Foxes in inner cities are seen as pests and have been known to attack pets and people, as well as digging up gardens, scavenging rubbish and leaving waste in their wake. As well as all of this, many carry diseases and parasites which can be harmful.
Deter foxes from your premises by securing all waste in a wheelie bin, not leaving pet food out overnight, and ensuring your pets are safe.
