Flea Infestation Explosions
The issue of a flea infestation is set to become an ever increasing issue in our homes this summer! It is expected that over this summer the numbers of fleas will massively increase as the temperature and humidity create the perfect climate for fleas to start awakening from their dormant state and breed. The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) scientists have released their predictions on the flea numbers.
The milder winters that we have been experiencing in recent years have allowed the flea population to increase. Fleas are able to survive these warmer winters by lying dormant in soft furnishings and carpets without dying from the cold. These fleas wait until the climate hits perfect conditions for breeding which is when they then awaken. Fleas as larvae and eggs live in soft furnishings and carpets and can remain dormant as pupae for a significant time. If a few fleas manage to go unnoticed they can quickly turn create a flea infestation in your home.
Richard Moseley from BPCA has warned pet owners that parasites will now start to jump out of their dormant state as summer is now fully under way creating a threat of a flea infestation. Homes with untreated pets or pets with fleas already are the homes under most risk from this explosion of flea numbers.
It is important that homes receive immediate treatment to stop fleas from becoming a serious flea infestation or to stop an infestation from becoming any worse. To be able to ensure effective treatment all carpets, all soft full thorough treatment needs to be done as soon as possible to stop the furnishings and all fabrics will have to be treated. It is also vital that any pets are treated too. Fleas are able to survive vacuuming so it is important to throw away vacuum bags after each use in a flea infested area.
