It goes without saying that no pests are welcome in our homes. Anyone in their right mind would want to get rid of them at the first sign of a problem or infestation. That being said, there are some domestic pests that are more damaging and dangerous to leave in you home without a proper course of treatment than others. In the following post, we highlight which domestic pests are worst if left, emphasising why it’s so important to remove them sooner rather than later.
Bed Bugs
Perhaps one of the most prevailing and difficult to remove of all the domestic pests we face here in the UK, are bed bugs. They can be a real problem if they are not handled straight away. If bed bugs aren’t dealt with quickly and by a professional company, the infestation will just continue to grow and cause havoc. They will bite you and your family members – and potentially any visitors! They spread like wildfire if they are left to their own devices. And attempts to eradicate them on your own can even exasperate the problem.
Ants (Pharaoh Ants in particular)
All ants are tricky to deal with. Ants are always on the hunt for food. All ant species live in nests with vast a population. But the problem with Pharaoh ants is that their nests can house around 100,000 small, hungry and industrious creatures. There is no way to deal with the problem on your own, due to the sheer scale and numbers of these pests.
You need to hire a professional company as soon as you spot even 3 or 4 of these pests. Unless you want to have to deal relentlessly with ants crawling all over your food, floors and worktops.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches make most people shudder. just the mere sight or sound of them scuttling along the floor, ceiling or wall will send even the most rational person into a panic. It is well known that cockroaches are one of those domestic pests that it’s better to deal with as soon as you’ve spotted one. If you’ve spotted one, chances are there will be more. They are so resilient and tough, you can only really get rid of them properly with professional assistance and expertise.
Wasps and their nests
Having a wasp or two in the garden is not generally a huge problem. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone too. And generally, like most flying insects, they only sting when threatened. However, if you have a wasp nest in your garden, that’s when you have a real issue. They are more protective and on guard when closer to their nest, and are more likely to be on the attack.
A wasp nest also means that in terms of numbers, you will have a lot of wasps in the environment. The sooner you hire a professional to get rid of these domestic pests and their nest, the better.
Mice Domestic Pests
Even though mice appear to be cute and friendly, as domestic pests they are one of the most infuriating and damaging. Thanks to their biological makeup and their diminutive size, they can get into even the smallest gaps. As they need to constantly chew, bite and gnaw on things. Well on anything really, from furniture to electrical wiring, if an infestation is not dealt with quickly, you can end up with a lot of damage to your property. Costly damage. Plus, they breed incredibly fast.
Brown Rats
Rats, that is, brown rats, are thought to be one of the most common domestic pests in the UK. Especially in large cities like London. As with mice, at the first signs of a rat problem, you should act fast to get rid of them – or the problem will only worsen.
A prevailing rat infestation can lead to damage to your property, including structural damage, fire and flood. Not to mention the fact that they pose a health risk to your family because they can carry diseases.
Clothes Moths
Clothes moths may not be on your list of the worst domestic pests to contend with. After all, they are not nearly as disgusting as cockroaches, don’t bite like bed bugs, and are easy to kill, right? Wrong. Clothes moths are one of the trickiest pests to get rid of. Similarly to bed bugs, you may require systematic, professional help to get rid of them. If not, they can cause untold damage to your carpets, clothes and upholstery. They reproduce in large numbers and can become an out of control infestation if not treated immediately.
