Depending on where you live in the world, the pests you meet can be irritating, lots of trouble, or even deadly. Though this may be more extreme and immediate in some parts of the globe, don’t forget that pests in London can be pretty hazardous too!
Here’s our list of the most dangerous pests in the world…
Spiders
The most poisonous arachnids live in Australia and South America, so we don’t have much to fear from them in the UK (unless you find them in a banana, like some poor people have). However, even though they’re not deadly over here, they can cause serious infestations in the home. They are especially pesky in big cities, where small insects are more common for them to eat.
Horse Flies
These nasty little creatures are really bothersome to farmers, as they drink blood from livestock and carry diseases. They can make domestic pets fall in, and infect humans as well. Not only are they dangerous, they are notoriously difficult to get rid of).
Fleas
Fleas are annoying parasites, which carry diseases and reproduce really quickly. In large numbers they can cause anaemia to their host, and your pet can literally be eaten alive.
Termites
Similar to fleas, termites spawn extremely fast. They live in colonies and eat non-stop. The worst part about them is that they aren’t easy to spot, and homeowners normally find they have a problem when their house starts falling apart.
Kissing Bug
Named for biting the lip of a sleeping person, they are interested in animals and people, and transmit a parasite called trypanosoma cruzi. This kills over 12,000 people every year, and pets are equally just as vulnerable as we are.
Rat
Rats cause very severe problems. They breed very quickly, and carry dangerous illnesses. Even a scratch from a rat can lead to diseases. Rats need to be controlled because they love to hide in people’s houses where they breed and cause a lot of problems.
House Mouse
These mice are more dangerous than rats, believe it or not. It’s smaller, so needs less to survive. They also reproduce faster, and carry more diseases.
Mosquitoes
Bites are super itchy and annoying, but mosquitoes also contribute to about a million deaths every year, mostly through the transmission of diseases.
