If you just happen to be going down the woods today, you’re in for quite a surprise, so you’d probably do well to go fully equipped to deal with the impending armies of annoying summertime pests!
Going for a picnic in the summer sunshine is an age old British tradition that is treasured by many. Picnics can be adventurous for the kids – who can bring their teddies, too, or it can simply be a fun way to pass a sunny afternoon with family and friends; enjoying good food and making memories.
Picnics are great at any time of year, but they’re ideal in the sunshine. Like you need an excuse for potato salad, pork pies, scotch eggs and a range of different sandwiches? (Not to mention fresh fruit with fresh cream and perhaps a slice of cake for dessert!). The possibilities are endless.
However, while picnics are great fun for all and can create lasting memories, they can also be an attractive prospect for pests – with plenty of people to feast on, leftover food to pilfer and much more besides; they are completely spoilt for choice! Not to mention that they can be a nightmare for those that suffer from hay fever or have severe reactions to insect bites – ouch! Avoid the picnic pests this year by following our advice and these helpful tips from our team of pest control experts in London.
Pest Control at the Picnic Table
- Use insect repellent spray where you can – at least 15 minutes before you leave the house if you are worried about bites and stings
- Sprinkle talcum powder around your picnic table or favourite blanket to keep the ants at bay. They won’t cross the line meaning your picnic treats are safe!
- Lemon oil and garlic oil in little pots dotted around your picnic gathering are a great way of keeping mosquitoes and flies away from you, your family and friends
- Sugary and sweet drinks attract pests galore – drink from containers with lids to keep the bugs out of your beverages
- Similarly, red wine does a fantastic job of attracting fruit flies – place a small glass of wine a short distance away from your set up to keep them away; they’ll head straight for the wine and linger there
- Citronella candles offer so much more than practical candlelight as the sun sets – the scent also repels insects. Pretty and functional!
All things going well, your picnic should be pest-free this summer!
Unfortunately, however, the warmer weather often means that pests are much more prevalent, which could mean that they pose a higher level risk of infesting your home. It is important to be vigilant with any repairs around the home, as well as ensuring that you keep your home clean and tidy. This makes it much easier to spot any pests that have entered your home and will deter them from setting up camp.
