Why are they such a big problem?

You have to do everything you can to stop attracting flies. Try to keep all surfaces and floors as clean as you possibly can. Make sure food is stored away in a pantry and also placed in sealed containers. Do not leave food out …ever. Any food scraps should be immediately thrown out.
Also keep your dustbins closed and far away from your kitchen. Finally, there are many fly prevention gadgets on the market. These range from sticky fly paper, to fans which blow flies away, to various types of traps. The most effective are those where the fly can get into the trap but not out. There are also devices using a blue light.
