Being a London property owner, rodents are a big concern. The city is full of rodents, especially rats. This is why you need to have effective rodent control in place. But which method do you go for? Poison or traps?
In this post we are going to cover the pros and cons of both, helping you to choose which one will be most effective when experiencing a rodent problem.
Rodent Control Using Poison
Rodent poison has a lot of different forms. It can come in blocks, baits, grains, gels and even foams. This is what makes it so versatile to use in loads of different settings and situations.
Poison is made so that it becomes tasty to the rodent, which is why it’s a highly effective form of exterminating rodents. However, it is not the appropriate option in every situation when it comes to a rodent infestation. Certain types of rodent poisons can only be used by pest control experts who have the right training to handle it properly and safely.
Another downside of using poison to treat a rodent infestation is that it can be dangerous to other animals. If the poison is not used carefully, other animals including your family pets can eat it, or they could also eat a rodent that has been poisoned. This in turn poisons the animal.
Potential issues with poison is that rodents won’t die where the poison was ingested. This means they may not be found, or run off to places where they can’t be retrieved. If this happens to be in your homes walls, it will lead to a really unpleasant smell.
Rodent Control Using Traps
Traps are in fact a very simple method of rodent control. There’s loads of different traps to choose from, like glue boards or electric traps.
A great benefit of using rodent traps is that any dead rodents are easily found, and you can dispose of them quickly.
Unfortunately, if you have a big infestation, traps aren’t going to be very effective. They can also be quite costly if you have to buy a lot of them. Like poison, other animals can be harmed by rodent traps.
