If you’re like most of us, seeing an invincible cockroach around a corner when we turn on a light is enough for us to curl up in bed for the rest of the night. The problem is, these creatures are about to expand their living areas thanks to climate change. Does that mean that cockroach pest control services will be even more needed than before?
Scientists in the field are saying that cockroaches are finding dry and warm spots as likeable climates to live in, unlike where they came from naturally. That is, the ideal climate for cockroaches is hot and humid, as the humid air gives them lots of moisture to breathe in and keeps them in great shape.
When cockroaches stop breathing (which they can do for a staggering 40 minutes at a time), it is believed that this is to protect their bodies from dry air so that the moisture they’ve accumulated stays in side. Though, there is no definitive proof on this theory. Cockroaches have been evolving since the beginning hints of global warming and are now getting used to the hot and dry climates that the world is going to see a lot more of in the near future. So, get ready to see more cockroaches than ever before. But, that’s not the worst part.
Cockroaches, many of which already have wings, are now finding that they are able to use their wings to actually take flight instead of just jumping around and sailing for a few seconds. The hot and dry weather gives them the ability to actually fly around and gain momentum just like a lot of other insects in the world. So, we can expect to see a lot more cockroaches in our homes, and now they are going to be able to fly around, too. Cockroaches are hard to catch as it is!
Many were hoping that one of the only good things about global warming is that this persistent and invincible pest would die out, but this is clearly not the case at all! They are once again adapting to live with the new conditions and are moving into our homes and buildings to wait out the global warming storm.
