2015 is finally here, and you know what that means…it’s time for a start-of-year clean-up! If you’re struggling to know where to start though, why not begin in the bedroom to ensure your sleeping space is tidy and hygienic.
Without an adequate level of cleanliness, it will encourage unwanted pests to pay you a visit. Pests like rats and mice are unwelcome guests that can wreak havoc on any property. For pests that aren’t attracted to dirt though, like bed bugs, additional precautionary and preventive measures should be taken to avoid an infestation. We will touch on these a bit later.
In this blog post, we here at Empire Pest Control will be taking you through just three tips for your big bedroom clean.
Make Use of Storage
We all know the classic scenario of getting halfway through tidying your bedroom, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of lethargy and a desire to throw everything into plastic bags. These will then sit in the corners of the room for another year.
So, instead of piling up your room with plastic bags and the like, be clever about how you use your storage solutions. For example, if you have shelves inside your wardrobe, don’t just stuff the first thing you see up there; use this area for larger, lighter items that you don’t often need. This includes spare bedding and pillowcases.
Lastly, when tidying, be careful around cracks and crevices as you may disturb the home of a pest, which is the last thing you want after hours of tidying and cleaning.
Soap, Soap and More Soap!
Once you’ve got everything packed away, it is time to bring out the soap. Make sure you wipe down everything, including the windowsill and any hard furniture.
Also pop your sheets in the wash. Before you bung them in the washing machine though, it may be worth checking for any unusual marks as this could be an indication of bed bugs. If you do notice anything strange on your sheets, it is always worth calling in a local pest control company to perform an inspection. These services are available in London and other prime locations around the UK.
Pest Preventive Methods
Once you have cleaned and tidied, it is always best to implement a few pest prevention methods to avoid any uninvited visitors. This may include sealing off any gaps or crevices to prevent pests from entering your home or, if you suspect you may already have a problem, calling in the experts to take a look at your property. Specialists can also give you advice on how to avoid a pest problem in the future. See here for details on one of the UK’s most common pests.
