Have you recently found holes in your clothes that have been hanging in your wardrobe? If so, then you could be dealing with an infestation of clothes moths.
Clothes moths love to eat wool, cashmere, angora, silk, leather, fur and feathers. This can include carpets and upholstery. They prefer to live in dark and damp conditions.
So what do you need to do if you spot a moth sneaking among your shirts?
- If you have found an infestation of clothes moths in your London home, you need to set some moth traps. The traps are very clever, and will attract and then kill the moths. You can even make your own natural moth traps if you have the time!
- Obviously it’s time to wash your clothes! If you can then put them through a hot dryer. For more delicate items that can’t be dried at high temperatures, put them in your freezer. These extreme temperatures will kill any eggs the moth has laid on your clothes. Any other cloth items stored in your wardrobe will need to be cleaned too.
- Now you’ve cleaned and removed everything from your wardrobe, you need to clean the wardrobe itself! This gets rid of any eggs that might be lurking. Make up a soap, vinegar and water solution, and give your walls a really good scrub. It’s a lengthy task, and your arm might ache afterwards, but your clothes will thank you!
Once you’ve taken these steps, you should hopefully be moth free once again. Your clothes will now be safe and hole-less. Mission Successful!
